NDC historiographies unveiled ahead of launch on 28 September at UPSA

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has unveiled a six-volume publication documenting the party's and the 4th Republic of Ghana's political history. This significant step towards preserving its legacy and strengthening institutional memory for future generations is set to break cover at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), on September 28, 2026.

Unveiling the Party's Legacy

The collection traces the party's journey from its formation to the present day, capturing key milestones including media coverage of the NDC over the years, leadership elections, manifesto development, constitutional reforms, and other defining moments in the party's evolution. Copies of the books were formally presented to the National Chairman of the NDC, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, and the party.

Mr. Asiedu Nketiah commended the team behind the project for compiling historical records, including the party's original founding documents submitted to the Electoral Commission during its registration. He emphasized that the publication includes a manifesto volume that chronicles the changing priorities of the country through successive election manifestos.

Documenting the Party's History

The National Chairman explained that the publication includes a volume that documents the evolution of the NDC's constitution, providing historical context to current debates on internal party governance. He also noted that another volume documents the party's journey from its first election up to today, including the original founding documents with the original signatures of the founding fathers.

Reflecting on the party's formative years, Mr. Asiedu Nketiah recounted how parliamentary candidates were initially selected before the introduction of competitive internal primaries. He described how the NDC's democratic structures have evolved over time.

Proceeds from the Sale

The official launch will feature book review discussions featuring notable political figures and academics on selected chapters of the historiographies to stimulate conversations on the party's history, institutional development, and contribution to Ghana's democratic journey. Oswald Okaitei, a member of the Book Launch Planning Committee, noted that proceeds from the sale of the books will also be used to support cancer treatment and the cardio therapy unit.

The party, through its Chairman, Mr. Asiedu Nketiah, has encouraged both its members and the general public to purchase the books in support of the initiative. This move is expected to provide valuable insights into the NDC's history and contribute to the country's democratic journey.

The NDC's six-volume publication is a significant step towards preserving its legacy and strengthening institutional memory for future generations. The official launch on September 28, 2026, at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), is expected to generate significant interest and conversations about the party's history and contribution to Ghana's democratic journey.
