GETFund Rolls Out Furniture Drive to Plug Schools' Shortages
The Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) has launched a nationwide initiative to provide classroom furniture for basic, junior, and senior high schools facing critical shortages across the country. Dubbed the Collective Furniture Appeal, the initiative aims to bring together corporate organisations, development partners, alumni associations, religious bodies, civil society groups, philanthropists, and individuals to support schools in need.
Addressing a Persistent Challenge
Despite sustained government investment in educational infrastructure, furniture shortages remain a challenge in several communities. Some pupils still share desks or learn under uncomfortable conditions. GETFund noted that addressing the deficit would require a collective national effort to complement ongoing government interventions.
What's Being Sought
The items being sought include metal mono and dual desks and chairs for students, bunk beds, teachers' tables and chairs, as well as other essential furniture required to create safe and conducive learning environments. These basic needs are essential to creating a dignified environment for teaching and learning.
A Collective National Effort
Under the initiative, corporate Ghana, non-governmental organisations, development partners, traditional authorities, religious organisations, community groups, alumni associations, and the general public are being encouraged to donate new or gently used furniture. GETFund said the initiative aligns with President John Mahama's vision of transforming Ghana's education sector through strategic partnerships, innovative financing, and shared responsibility.

The initiative forms part of the broader EFPI programme, through which GETFund is seeking to expand private-sector and philanthropic participation in financing educational development.
Public Support Crucial
GETFund called for broad public support for the campaign, stressing that adequate classroom furniture is essential to creating a dignified environment for teaching and learning. "Together, let us support the President's vision for education by furnishing our classrooms, empowering our teachers, inspiring our learners, and ensuring that no child is left behind," the Fund said.
