The Shama District Assembly in the Western Region has unveiled a total of 17 million cedis worth of capital projects, including a 24-hour market, to improve the lives of residents in the area. The projects, funded with District Assemblies Common Fund, were inspected by the District Chief Executive (DCE), Paul Otis Dentu, and other officials to ensure they are on schedule for completion.
New Infrastructure to Drive Community Development
The 17 million cedis were released by the government in 2025 for the various projects, which aim to address the needs of the community. The DCE, Mr. Dentu, expressed satisfaction with the work done on the projects, assuring that the Assembly would monitor them to ensure they are completed on schedule.
The Assembly has been working on several projects in different communities, including the construction of institutional places of convenience, particularly in schools. This is part of the WASH agenda to improve access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene facilities.
At Awuna Beach, a three-unit classroom block with office, store, and staff common room has been completed. The block includes facilities such as a staff common room, which will provide a conducive environment for teachers to work and interact with each other.
Community-Led Development
The District Coordinating Director, Mr. Eric Aboagye Mensah, urged the communities to have more trust in the Assembly as it is committed to dispensing more community services to uplift the living standards of the people. He called on the contractors to deliver the projects on time, as management prepares to meet and take decisions on projects for 2026.
The Assembly has also purchased two new vehicles and repaired buses and other internal fixtures using the Internally Generated Funds (IGF). This move is expected to improve the efficiency of the Assembly's operations and provide better services to the community.
