A 35-year-old mason, Michael Okyere, has been sentenced to eight years in jail for robbing a pharmacist at Denchemuoso, near Kwadaso in the Ashanti Region. The court handed down the sentence after finding Okyere guilty of the crime.

Michael Okyere was found guilty after a full trial presided over by Jephthar Appau at the Kwadaso Circuit Court. He had pleaded not guilty to the charge but was convicted after the prosecution presented its case. Police Chief Inspector David Opoku Kwabi led the prosecution and presented the facts to the court.
Robbery Details Revealed
According to the prosecution, the robbery took place on January 22, 2025, at about 0900 hours at Kingsley Nsiah Chemist in Atwima Techiman. The complainant, Ms Salomey Ametefe Enyonam, was an attendant at the chemist when the convict, Okyere, entered the shop. He requested to see the doctor in charge but became aggressive when the complainant asked him to wait.
Investigation and Arrest
Okyere became aggressive and pushed the complainant against a refrigerator in the office. He then forcibly took her iPhone 11 mobile phone valued at GH¢4,500.00 and fled the scene. The complainant raised an alarm, prompting some youths in the area to pursue and arrest the convict before handing him over to the Denchemuoso Police.
Okyere's Caution Statement
In his caution statement, Okyere admitted the offence and pleaded for leniency. However, the court did not take into consideration his plea and sentenced him to eight years in jail. Following investigations, he was charged and arraigned before the court, which found him guilty after a full trial.
