An Accra Circuit Court has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Kweku Osei Korankye Asiedu, also known as KOKA, a marketer, for failing to appear before it. Asiedu is accused of threatening to kill staff of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) and publishing false news.
Threats Against EOCO Staff
The case against Asiedu began on July 14, 2026, when he was invited for questioning over a video circulating on social media in which he allegedly threatened the lives of EOCO staff. According to the prosecution, in a video recorded on May 29, 2026, the accused allegedly stated: “We know the officers’ houses, we know where they stay, and we will kill you.”
The prosecution further alleged that on July 13, 2026, Asiedu appeared in another video claiming that there was “an order from above, the Presidency, that no one should bring food to Dennis Miracles Aboagye,” who was then in EOCO custody assisting with investigations. The prosecution said the statement was false and was intended to incite a breach of the peace, mislead the public and undermine EOCO officials in the lawful discharge of their duties.
Marketer and NPP Communicator Absent from Court
When the case was called, Asiedu, who is also a communicator for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), was absent. Chief Inspector Wisdom Alorwu, prosecuting, told the court that the accused had been duly notified to appear but failed to do so, describing his conduct as disrespectful to the court.
Warrant Issued and Case Adjourned
The court issued a bench warrant for Asiedu’s arrest and adjourned the case to August 25, 2026. The prosecution said the complainants were staff of EOCO, and that Asiedu’s actions instilled fear among EOCO personnel as they carried out their lawful duties.
The prosecution said following the publication of the video, the driver of the Executive Director of EOCO was allegedly pursued by about 20 unidentified men on motorbikes, who were suspected to have intended to attack him. Asiedu was subsequently arrested and, during police investigations, allegedly admitted the offences in his caution statement.
The court's decision to issue a bench warrant for Asiedu's arrest underscores the gravity of the allegations against him. The Economic and Organised Crime Office plays a crucial role in maintaining law and order in Ghana, and any threats against its staff are taken seriously.
