Rev. Wengam Keeps the Top Seat: Assemblies of God, Ghana Re-elects Him

Rev. Stephen Yenusom Wengam has been re-elected as General Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Ghana, securing nearly 90 per cent of votes cast in the church's 32nd Biennial General Council Meeting at Gomoa Fetteh in the Central Region. Rev. Wengam polled 3,727 votes, representing 89.61 per cent, to defeat Rev. Dr. Kwame B. Bansah of Charity Assemblies of God in the Adenta District of the Accra West Region, who obtained 432 votes, representing 10.39 per cent.

Wengam's Second Term: A Focus on Church Transformation

Rev. Wengam has been re-elected for another four-year term and has pledged to serve members of the church with renewed commitment, humility, and dedication. In his acceptance speech, he called on members to move beyond the contest and unite behind the church's mission, emphasizing the importance of unity in building the church. "After competition comes cooperation," he said. "The competition for the highest position in Assemblies of God, Ghana, is over. A gigantic task to build the church remains."

New Leadership Appointed

The 32nd Biennial General Council Meeting also saw the appointment of new officers, including Rev. Dr. Kwadwo Bempah as Assistant General Superintendent, Rev. Dr. Albert Anane as General Secretary, and Rev. Simon Abu Baba as General Treasurer. In the departmental elections, Rev. Mrs Esther Oduro Dwomo was elected National Women's Ministries Director, while Mr. Silas Amankwaah retained his position as National Men's Ministry Director unopposed.

Plans for the Future

Rev. Wengam has announced that his second term will focus on advancing the church's transformation agenda and ensuring the successful implementation of its strategic initiatives. He highlighted the Centenary City Project, which is being undertaken to commemorate the church's 100th anniversary, as one of the key projects to be implemented. "The Centenary City Project to mark our 100 years will certainly materialise in our lifetime," he stated. He also reaffirmed the church's commitment to evangelism under the MM33 agenda of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship.

Looking Ahead to the World Congress

The church's attention will now shift to the World Assemblies of God Fellowship Congress, scheduled to take place in Ghana from October 14 to 16, 2026. Rev. Wengam has urged pastors and church members across the country to support and participate in the event, particularly the evening sessions expected to be held at the Accra Sports Stadium. "Hosting an event of global significance comes with enormous responsibilities," he said.

The peaceful conclusion of the elections and the 32nd Biennial General Council Meeting paves the way for the newly elected Executive Presbytery to lead Assemblies of God, Ghana, over the next four years. As the church looks to the future, it remains to be seen how Rev. Wengam and the new leadership team will implement their plans and achieve their goals.
