Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has denied allegations of extortion made against him by the Chief Executive of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi. Afenyo-Markin made this statement during Parliament's emergency recall sitting on Monday, August 24, 2026.

Afenyo-Markin Vows to Cooperate with Investigation

Afenyo-Markin expressed his readiness to submit himself to any investigation into the allegations. He challenged those who have accused him of extortion to report the matter to the Police, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), or any other competent investigative agency.

"If they muster the courage to report that I have extorted from them and I am invited, I shall submit myself to every investigation so that eventually my name is cleared," Afenyo-Markin said.

Afenyo-Markin Tackles Allegations Through the Courts

Afenyo-Markin has already taken steps to address the allegations against him through the courts. He has caused writs to be filed in two separate cases involving individuals and media organisations over the claims. One of the suits, numbered GT 1029/2026, is titled Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin versus Samuel Adu-Gyamfi and Multimedia Group Limited and was filed at the Accra High Court. The second suit, GR/ACH/CC/C5/02/2026, is titled Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin versus Eric Agjei and Peace FM and was filed at the Achimota Circuit Court.

Afenyo-Markin Defends His Record as Minority Leader

Afenyo-Markin defended his record as Minority Leader, saying he has served in the position with integrity, hard work, and a clear conscience. "I have served in this position with integrity," he stated, adding that he has remained faithful to the responsibilities entrusted to him.
