Lawyer Martin Kpebu has called on [CONFIRM: John Dramani Mahama] to act after new data from the World Bank revealed that 56.4 percent of Ghanaians remain in poverty. The figure comes despite recent economic growth and initial signs of economic recovery reported across the country.
The World Bank report highlights a major gap between national economic recovery and the reality on the ground. While macroeconomic indicators show positive movement, more than half of the population struggles to buy basic goods and meet daily needs.
According to the bank, rising prices of goods and services in 2022 alone pushed about 850,000 Ghanaians into poverty. That surge in the cost of living eroded household savings and cut purchasing power for families across urban and rural communities.
