Counterfeit medicine trafficking causes more than 100,000 deaths across Africa every year, according to estimates by the World Health Organisation. In some African markets, falsified medicines account for between 30 percent and 60 percent of all available pharmaceutical products.
Togo is moving to tighten control over its drug supply with a new state body. The Council of Ministers approved a decree on Monday, September 7, establishing an autonomous national agency to regulate and monitor medicines and other health products.
