Kwabena Boamah appointed Board Chair for Impact Investing Ghana

Kwabena Boamah has taken over as Board Chair of Impact Investing Ghana (IIGh), stepping into the role at a time when the organisation is pushing to expand impact investing and mobilise domestic capital for sustainable development across Ghana and Africa. Boamah succeeds Alex Asiedu, who concludes a seven-year tenure marked by institutional growth and ecosystem development.

Boamah brings more than 25 years of experience in asset management, pensions, and investment management. He currently leads Stanbic Investment Management Services Ltd (SIMS) as Managing Director, overseeing assets exceeding USD 1.5 billion. His appointment comes as IIGh looks to deepen its influence and capital mobilisation efforts.

Asiedu, the inaugural board chair, guided IIGh through its formative years, expanding its activities in research, advocacy, convening, and capital mobilisation. Under his leadership, IIGh sponsored the design and first close of Ci-Gaba, West Africa’s first private sector fund-of-funds aimed at unlocking domestic pension capital for small and medium-sized enterprises. The organisation also launched the Deal Source Africa platform during his tenure. Asiedu said he was "incredibly proud" of the progress made and confident the board was in "excellent hands" with Boamah.

Boamah chairs the Fund Managers & Investment Advisors Committee of the Ghana Securities Industry Association (GSIA) and sits on the board of Oasis Africa VC Fund Limited. He has been an advocate for sustainable investments and the unlocking of pension assets in Africa to stimulate economic growth and real-sector investments. His governance experience and financial sector standing add weight to his new role.

Amma Lartey, IIGh’s Chief Executive Officer, welcomed Boamah's leadership. She said his "deep industry expertise, proven leadership and commitment to impact and sustainable investing will be invaluable" as the organisation enters its next growth phase. Lartey also expressed gratitude to Asiedu for his leadership and the foundation he laid.

Boamah holds a Doctorate in Finance from SMC University, Switzerland, and an MBA from the Paris Graduate School of Management. He completed the Executive Development Program at The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, and holds professional certifications from ACCA and the CFA Institute.

IIGh aims to catalyse an impact investing ecosystem that links capital, enterprise, and impact to promote inclusive economic growth. Boamah’s appointment arrives as the organisation seeks to unlock larger pools of domestic capital to drive sustainable economic transformation in Ghana and beyond.

Boamah said he was "honoured to take on the role of Board Chair at such an important time" and looked forward to working with the board, management, and partners to advance IIGh’s mission.

The transition underscores IIGh’s focus on scaling its impact investing efforts after nearly a decade of institution-building and market development under Asiedu’s leadership. The organisation’s initiatives like Ci-Gaba signal a strategic shift towards mobilising pension funds for private sector growth, a trend that Boamah has publicly supported and will now guide from the boardroom.
