Sydney Wright edged out Poland’s top seed Alisha Ndukwu in a three-hour and 40-minute final to claim the J100 Accra girls’ singles crown on Saturday, 3 October. The American third seed defeated Ndukwu 6-3, 4-6, 7-6(4) in a match that stretched both players to their limits at the Accra Sports Stadium National Tennis Centre.
Wright’s route to the final featured a commanding straight-sets win over Russia’s second seed Milana Kolesova, 6-3, 6-0. Ndukwu secured her final spot in a tough three-set semi-final against recent J60 champion Peppa Fennis, winning 6-2, 1-6, 6-0.
The final unfolded as a battle of endurance and precision. Wright took the first set 6-3 before Ndukwu rallied to claim the second 6-4. The third set saw neither player yielding ground, culminating in a tense tiebreak. Wright clinched the title by winning the breaker 7-4.
The event is part of the ninth edition of the ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors in Accra, running from 28 September to 10 October 2026. It is organised in partnership with Tennis Foundation Ghana and the Ghana Tennis Federation.
Wright’s victory awards her the J100 Accra Girls’ Singles title, adding a significant achievement to her junior tennis career. The final’s duration and intensity reflected the competitive level at this stage of the tournament.
