J100 Accra Boys’ Singles: Verma denies Beckles back-to-back titles to claim crown

Om Verma defeated David Beckles 6-3, 6-3 to claim the boys’ singles title at the ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors J100 Accra on Saturday, 3 October. The sixth seed from India halted Beckles’ attempt at consecutive crowns in a final played at the Accra Sports Stadium National Tennis Centre.

Verma reached the final after top seed Dev Vipul Patel retired in their semi-final match. Patel trailed 6-7 (5), 6-1, 4-1 when he withdrew. Verma’s run included a straight-sets win over Kenya’s third seed Zayyan Virani, 7-5, 6-1, in the quarter-finals.

Beckles, the fourth seed from the United States, arrived in the final with momentum. He had recently won his second J60 Accra singles title, defeating France’s Antoine Baudot. En route to the final, Beckles beat fifth seed Mannan Agarwal 6-4, 7-5 before surviving a three-set semi-final against India’s Shivtej Shirfule, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3.

The final pitted a player on the rise against one seeking to defend his crown. Verma took control early and maintained pressure throughout. His straight-sets victory ended Beckles’ bid to win back-to-back J100 Accra titles.

The ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors event, organised in partnership with Tennis Foundation Ghana and the Ghana Tennis Federation, ran from 28 September to 10 October 2026. This was its ninth edition.

Verma’s win gives him the J100 Accra Boys’ Singles Championship. Beckles, despite the loss, remains the only player in recent years to have won multiple Accra titles at different tour levels.
