Forbes’ World’s Best Employers 2026: No Ghanaian firm ranked among 900 companies

No Ghanaian company appeared in Forbes’ World’s Best Employers 2026 list, which named 900 firms globally. The top African employers were dominated by South African companies, with Nigeria and Egypt also represented.

Nine of the top 10 African firms were South African, including subsidiaries operating in Ghana such as Standard Bank (Stanbic), Absa, First National Bank, MTN, and Sanlam Insurance. The lone Nigerian company in the top 10 was Guaranty Trust Bank, ranked 277th globally, while Access Bank placed 704th.

Nedbank led Africa’s contingent at 26th worldwide. Standard Bank Group followed at 54th, Absa Group at 98th, and FirstRand at 104th. Banking and financial services companies accounted for six of the continent’s top 10.

The global top 10 included Microsoft, the highest-ranked U.S. firm, alongside Delta Airlines, Shopify, Costco, NVIDIA, Adobe, Apple, Sony, Alphabet, and Denmark’s Lego Group.

Forbes’ survey focused on multinational companies with over 1,000 employees. It collected employee feedback on willingness to recommend their employer, benefits, talent development, work environment, and training opportunities. Respondents could also rate previous employers or companies known through personal or professional connections.

The methodology offered a snapshot of employee views of large, internationally active firms rather than a broad assessment of workplace culture across Africa.

South African firms’ presence in Ghana did not translate into Ghanaian companies making the list. This distinction reflects the regional strength of South Africa’s banking and financial sectors within the Forbes ranking.

The absence of Ghanaian firms may prompt questions about local corporate footprints on the global stage. Meanwhile, South African banks and insurers maintain their positions as major employers recognized beyond their home country.
