GoldBod backs Pete Edochie’s African Youth Mentorship initiative

Ghana Gold Board has thrown its weight behind Pete Edochie’s African Youth Mentorship Initiative, a project aiming to reach 500,000 young Africans with guidance and training. The announcement came during a meeting on October 6 at GoldBod’s Accra headquarters, where Edochie met with Chief Executive Officer Sammy Gyamfi.

The mentorship programme is part of Edochie’s broader African Legacy Project, which also includes a book and a documentary film. The initiative seeks to develop youth talents across the continent, focusing on personal development, leadership, and economic awareness.

Gyamfi said the project fits with GoldBod’s existing Special Intervention Projects, which target mentorship, skills training, and entrepreneurship. “We count ourselves in. We’ll be part and parcel of this inspiring project because we have the youth at heart,” he told Edochie.

The actor’s decision to use his long career and personal experience to guide young Africans drew praise from Gyamfi, who described it as commendable. He noted that the project goes beyond entertainment to address Africa’s future and the responsibility of its youth.

During the meeting, Gyamfi revealed that GoldBod is featured in Edochie’s new book. “I was both surprised and honoured by the inclusion,” he said, viewing it as evidence of Edochie’s growing interest in Africa’s economic development and resource management.

Edochie has advocated for Africans to exercise greater control over their mineral resources, ensuring natural wealth benefits local populations. Gyamfi said this advocacy shows the actor’s contribution extends beyond his decades in film.

The session also allowed Gyamfi to outline government efforts to reform Ghana’s gold sector since GoldBod was established in October 2025. He said Ghana repatriated US$10.8 billion from gold in 2025. The cedi appreciated by 41 per cent against the US dollar that year. Inflation dropped from 23.3 per cent to about five per cent, and the country ended 2025 with 5.7 months of import cover.

Gyamfi attributed these economic improvements partly to measures giving Ghana greater control over gold trading and management, ensuring mineral wealth benefits the population.

The collaboration between GoldBod and Edochie brings together African cultural legacy, youth development, and economic sovereignty. For Edochie, the African Legacy Project channels his entertainment career into a platform shaping the next generation. For GoldBod, supporting the mentorship initiative complements its youth-focused work and promotes conversations about Africa’s resource management and development.

This partnership signals a shared interest in equipping young Africans not only with mentorship but also with knowledge of the continent’s cultural heritage and economic potential.
