Joy in Nayilifong as Farouk Aliu Mahama donates 100kVA transformer to improve power supply

On Wednesday, October 6, residents of Nayilifong in the Yendi Constituency gathered to witness the arrival of a 100kVA electricity transformer donated by former Member of Parliament Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama. The community erupted in cheers as the transformer was offloaded, ending months of erratic power supply that had disrupted businesses, students, and households alike.

Nayilifong’s power issues had forced many small-scale entrepreneurs to limit operations, while students struggled to study after dark. The arrival of the transformer promised a more stable electricity supply, which residents said would help revive local commerce and daily life.

An elderly woman spoke for many when she said, “We cannot thank our son, Farouk Aliu Mahama, enough for his continuous support to us even after he lost the seat. May God bless him.” The sentiment reflected widespread appreciation for Mahama’s ongoing involvement in the community since he lost his parliamentary seat in the 2024 general elections.

During his tenure as MP for Yendi, Mahama initiated several development projects in infrastructure, education, and youth empowerment. Despite the electoral defeat, he has maintained philanthropic efforts in the constituency. Just weeks before the transformer donation, he provided financial support to a young medical student from the area, enabling the student to complete his studies.

Residents say the transformer will not only stabilise power but also boost the local economy. Small businesses that rely heavily on electricity, such as shops and food vendors, expect to benefit immediately from improved supply.

The arrival of the transformer in Nayilifong reflects a rare continuity of service from a former MP, who remains connected to the needs of his community despite no longer holding elected office.
