Visual Arts Class of 2006 of Fijai SHS equips the school's ICT lab

On August 21, 2026, the Old Students Association (FOSA) Visual Arts Class of 2006 handed over a fully equipped computer laboratory to Fijai Senior High School. The facility aims to expand access to digital learning resources for students in the Visual Arts programme.

Richard Abbam-Berchie, Vice-President of the alumni group, said the project grew from their desire to give back to the school. “Fijai SHS equipped us academically and instilled values such as discipline, self-awareness, responsibility and preparedness for the future,” he said. The new computer lab is intended to strengthen teaching and learning of 21st-century skills, especially digital literacy.

The alumni group has supported Fijai SHS through multiple initiatives beyond the lab. They renovated and upgraded the Visual Arts Department to improve the learning environment. A career and mentorship programme was introduced to help students explore career options and professional pathways.

The group also backed menstrual hygiene and health education in partnership with the NGO Inspire to Rise, aiming to raise awareness and provide education on menstrual health. Teachers received recognition during the handover ceremony through plaques and cash awards for their long service and dedication to students.

Safety improvements included installing a lighting system that stretches from the school gate to the main entrance. According to the alumni, this was to improve visibility at night and protect both students and teachers.

Sekondi Constituency Member of Parliament Armah Blay Nyameke praised the group’s contributions. He urged other alumni groups across the Western Region to invest in their former schools. “Stronger partnerships between alumni and educational institutions could complement government efforts to address infrastructure gaps and educational needs,” he said.

Headmaster Kenneth Agbomadzi also expressed gratitude to the FOSA Visual Arts Class of 2006 for their support. He attended the handover event where several long-serving teachers were honoured.

The alumni’s work reflects a focus on improving facilities, student welfare, and recognising educators. Their efforts span infrastructure, mentorship, health education, and safety—aimed at shaping the experiences of current and future Fijai SHS students.
