Turkish FA bans 147 officials for breaching betting rules

Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan is among 147 football officials suspended for 45 days by the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) for violating betting regulations. The announcement follows a wider investigation that began in September, when the TFF provisionally suspended 448 individuals linked to professional clubs in Turkey’s top two divisions.

The disciplinary board’s review found that these officials, who held posts over the past five years, breached rules forbidding betting activities. Those 147 will be barred from carrying out football duties during their suspension. The remaining 301 cases lacked sufficient evidence to warrant sanctions.

The TFF’s crackdown on betting violations extends beyond club officials. In November 2025, the federation banned 149 referees and 1,204 players after its inquiry into gambling infringements. These steps align with regulations from FIFA and UEFA, which prohibit match officials and football personnel from engaging in betting related to the sport.

The TFF has not released the full list of names affected this time, but Ertugrul Dogan’s inclusion signals the federation’s willingness to hold senior figures accountable. The investigation reflects ongoing concerns about betting’s impact on the integrity of Turkish football.

Officials found guilty of betting breaches face restrictions on their professional activities for the duration of the 45-day suspension. The TFF’s disciplinary board will continue to monitor compliance and may impose further penalties if necessary.

This wave of suspensions arrives amid growing scrutiny of gambling within football worldwide. The TFF’s actions follow a pattern of intensified regulation aimed at protecting the sport’s credibility in Turkey, where betting scandals have periodically surfaced.

The latest sanctions underscore the federation’s enforcement of its rules, placing pressure on clubs and officials to maintain transparency and adherence to betting prohibitions. The TFF has not confirmed whether more investigations or longer bans will follow this round of disciplinary measures.
