Accra Academy beat Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (PRESEC) 4-0 to keep hold of the ODADEƐ ’90 5-a-side football trophy at the Accra Academy AstroTurf park. The match was the final of this year’s tournament, which gathered seven old students’ teams for a day of football and reunion.
The Bleoo Boys had won the first edition of the tournament last year when PRESEC hosted. This year’s win confirmed their hold on the title. Amos Jkieh, captain of Accra Academy’s 1992 year group, said they are eyeing a third straight win. “Last year we won it at PRESEC when they hosted it and we’ve won it again this year. We hope to retain the cup when we travel to Kumasi next year, when it’s hosted by Opoku Ware and Prempeh College,” he said.
The tournament brought together former students from seven schools. Beyond football, it was a chance to reconnect. Music, dancing, food, and entertainment helped old friends relive memories. Brigadier General Lawrence Deku, president of the ODADEƐ ’90 year group, emphasized the social side. “This event is to bring all of us together, to promote friendship and good spirits. We all reckon that we’re 50-plus, and we use platforms like these to exercise ourselves,” he said.
The next ODADEƐ ’90 5-a-side tournament will take place in Kumasi. Opoku Ware School and Prempeh College are set to host it. This promises another gathering of old students for both competition and celebration.
Accra Academy’s strong performance on home turf confirms their skill and teamwork. Meanwhile, the tournament continues to build a community beyond the pitch. The mix of sport and social reunion keeps the event alive each year.
