A 23-year-old student accused of stealing GH¢1.5 million from Bishop Daniel Obinim has been granted bail by an Adenta Circuit Court. Ohemaa Serwaa Abigail Owusu Ansah faces charges of conspiracy to commit theft but has not yet entered a plea.
The court set bail with two sureties, requiring one to be justified by landed property. Owusu Ansah is due to reappear in court on October 29, 2026.
Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo, prosecuting, told the court that Bishop Obinim, founder of the International Godsway Church, was a friend of the accused. On October 13, 2026, Owusu Ansah visited the bishop at his Lakeside residence. During their conversation in the complainant’s room, Obinim left for church, leaving her at the house.
The next morning, around 7:00 am, the bishop discovered his safe had been broken into and GH¢1.5 million was missing. When confronted, the accused reportedly said she had contacted her father’s worker, Owusu, who sent two young men to the house.
According to the prosecution, Owusu Ansah led the two men into the room, showed them the safe, which they broke open before taking the money and leaving.
Owusu Ansah was arrested on October 16 at about 2:00 pm and taken to the Criminal Investigations Department headquarters. In her caution statement, she allegedly admitted inviting the two men to break into the safe and steal the money.
Investigations into the case are ongoing.
