Government has deposited $1.7 billion into a dedicated account at the Bank of Ghana to finance the construction of the Accra-Kumasi Expressway.
Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson confirmed the deposit, stating that full funding for the project will be ready by the end of the year.
"By the end of this year, the full funding for the transformational Accra-Kumasi Expressway will be ready," Dr Forson stated.
Total funding required to build the highway is set at $3 billion.
Felix Kwakye Ofosu stated that government will raise the full $3 billion by the end of the year to complete the financing package.
Securing the money before starting work represents a clear shift from previous national road projects.
