The Ghana Armwrestling Federation has named a squad to compete at the World Armwrestling Championship in New Delhi, India, from October 26 to November 7, 2026. The team includes some of the country’s most accomplished athletes, with hopes of winning medals and strengthening Ghana’s position in the sport globally.
Mabel Yeboah, competing in the 60kg category, leads the women’s contingent alongside Blessed Abeka Nunoo (65kg) and Grace Minta (89kg). They will be joined by Florence Boakye and Afia Kumah, both in the 110+kg category, and Comfort Dunyo in the 60kg class. These athletes have gained recognition through international competitions, establishing themselves as top contenders.
The men’s team comprises Edward Asamoah Yamoah, Haruna Tahiru, Godwin Sackey, Daniel Acquah, Charles Osei Asibey Jr., Henry Otoo, and Asinu Dodzie. Each brings experience and strength, expected to add depth to Ghana’s challenge at the championship.
Ghana’s progress in armwrestling has drawn attention in recent years, with its athletes making significant strides on continental and world stages. The national team’s consistent performance has enhanced the country’s reputation among the world’s armwrestling community.
Despite the team’s preparations, the Ghana Armwrestling Federation has appealed for financial support from corporate Ghana, government entities, philanthropists, and sports enthusiasts. The federation cited funding as a major concern for facilitating the team’s travel and participation in India.
The Federation’s call for assistance aims to ensure that financial challenges do not bar the athletes from competing. Support from the private sector and individuals could boost the team’s campaign and provide sponsors an opportunity to associate with a sport that continues to deliver results internationally.
Over the years, the Ghana Armwrestling Federation has developed athletes capable of competing at the highest level while creating opportunities for talent development and national pride. This latest appeal reflects the Federation’s effort to maintain Ghana’s presence on the global stage.
The 2026 World Armwrestling Championship will bring together top competitors from around the world. Ghana’s team is set to test its strength against the best, with hopes that support will arrive before their departure to New Delhi.
