The Minister-designate for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mahama Ayariga, has told Parliament that Ghana’s deeply religious nature provides a basis for supporting a National Cathedral for the Christian community. He made the statement when he appeared before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Thursday, August 27.
Speaking during his vetting session, the Bawku Central lawmaker acknowledged that the country is constitutionally a secular state. However, he told committee members that religion remains a central part of the daily lives of citizens.
He explained that places of worship are essential tools that enable citizens to practice their faith across the country. He noted that facilities such as church buildings and mosques serve direct practical purposes for religious believers.
