The bodies of three children were found inside the boot of a locked car in Tamale at around 5 a.m. on Monday, 5 October 2026. The vehicle, a black Hyundai Tucson with registration number AS 1770-14, had been stuck in mud on a road leading to Koblimahagu Zoo, Tamale Metropolis, Northern Region.

The deceased were identified as Dauda Abdul Aziz, 3; Saani Alsharaf, 5; and Dauda Fadilan, 7. Police said the children left home around 8 a.m. on Sunday, 4 October, reportedly to attend Islamic classes but never returned.

The Northern Regional Police Command began investigating after community members failed to find the children. The initial inspection at the scene revealed that the driver's door and the rear passenger door behind the driver's seat were open, while the boot and other doors were locked.

DCOP Wisdom Lavoe, Northern Regional Police Commander, confirmed that the vehicle belongs to a Ghana Immigration Service personnel. The owner told police the car had been stuck in the mud for five days.

The owner has since been arrested and is being taken to Accra to assist with investigations. The Inspector-General of Police has dispatched a special team of homicide investigators, crime scene experts, and intelligence officers to Tamale to support the regional command.

Police secured the vehicle for forensic examination and said all necessary investigative steps are underway to determine the circumstances leading to the children’s deaths.

The discovery raised immediate questions about how the children ended up in the boot of the car and whether foul play was involved. The special team sent by the IGP will conduct forensic and intelligence work to establish what happened.

The investigation remains active as authorities work to piece together the timeline and cause of death.
