Ghana lose Morocco friendly as Atlas Lions turn to Mali

Morocco will face Mali on Sunday, October 4, at Tangier’s Grand Stadium after their scheduled friendly against Ghana was cancelled. The Atlas Lions were originally set to meet the Black Stars during the October international window, but that fixture will no longer take place.

Mali stepped in after their own planned friendly against Tunisia fell through. The Eagles will travel to Morocco for the match, which kicks off at 6:00pm GMT. The encounter offers both teams a chance to test their squads ahead of upcoming competitive fixtures.

Both Morocco and Mali have started their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaigns with two wins each. Morocco secured victories in their opening Group C matches, while Mali matched that performance. Ghana, in contrast, have lost their first two matches in the same group.

The Black Stars began their qualifying campaign with a 2-0 loss to Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké. They followed that with a 4-2 defeat to The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium. The cancellation of the friendly with Morocco means Ghana will not face the Atlas Lions during this international break.

The decision to replace Ghana with Mali came after Tunisia cancelled their fixture against Mali. Morocco’s preparations now continue with the Eagles as their opponents in Tangier. This reshuffle changes the schedule but maintains the opportunity for all involved to adjust tactics and evaluate players ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The October window will see Morocco hosting Mali instead of Ghana, shifting the dynamics of friendly matches for the teams involved.
