The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has started handing out relief to more than 4,000 households affected by recent floods in Hohoe, Volta Region. The initial aid includes food items, mattresses, mosquito nets, mosquito repellent, and cooking oil.
Pascal Agbagba, NADMO’s Volta Regional Director, told The Pulse on JoyNews that the organisation is still assessing the situation on the ground while working to provide immediate support. “We have brought a few items,” he said, adding that these supplies are part of the first wave of assistance.
NADMO has identified over 4,000 households impacted by the floods. These households are spread across roughly 400 houses in the affected communities. Mr Agbagba said the organisation is making sure each house receives some form of help while waiting for more relief items from the national office.
“Each house will get something in the interim,” he said. He also assured residents that the National Office is mobilising additional supplies to meet the growing needs.
The organisation’s response comes after heavy rains caused severe flooding, displacing families and damaging property in Hohoe. NADMO’s ongoing assessment will determine the scale of further relief distribution based on the number of affected households.
At this stage, the focus remains on stabilising the situation for those displaced and providing essentials to reduce immediate hardship. NADMO’s efforts highlight the continuing challenges facing flood victims in the Volta Region as they begin to recover.
