Arsenal have signed Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United for £75m. The 28-year-old Brazil midfielder joins the Premier League champions on a four-year deal with an option for a further 12 months.
Guimaraes Leaves Behind Memories at Newcastle
Guimaraes made it clear he wanted to join the Premier League champions earlier this summer. He called the move one of the “toughest decisions” of his life, saying, “This move is very tough because Newcastle means so much to me.”
Guimaraes joined Newcastle in January 2022, when the team was struggling in relegation trouble. Under former head coach Eddie Howe, he played a crucial role in their improvement in fortunes. He was part of the side that qualified for the Champions League in 2023 and 2025, before they slipped to 12th place in the Premier League last season.
Reactions from Fellow Players
Guimaraes revealed he received messages from a number of his future team-mates, including countryman Gabriel as well as fellow midfielder Declan Rice. Rice told him, “come here and please no more fights, now we’re friends.” Guimaraes is excited to start his new chapter at Emirates Stadium.
Newcastle said they wished Guimaraes and his family well. Guimaraes will be remembered for his achievements at Newcastle, including becoming the first captain in seven decades to lift a major domestic trophy for the club in the 2025 EFL Cup final.
A New Challenge for Guimaraes
Guimaraes said he wanted to experience something new in his life and feel ready for a new challenge. He wants to win trophies, make history, and believes he's in the right place to do it. Guimaraes is at the point of his life where he thinks he needs a challenge like this.
The transfer is a significant one for both Arsenal and Newcastle. It remains to be seen how Guimaraes will perform in his new role, but he's certainly excited about the prospect of winning trophies with his new team.
