The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, made a call to media practitioners to help sanitize the airwaves of political insults in a recent meeting with the media in Kumasi. He urged them to wage a crusade against persons who hurl insults at their political opponents.
The Politics of Insults Must Stop
The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, popularly known as COKA, believes that the media has a crucial role to play in toning down the political temperature and safeguarding the nation's peace and security. He stated, "I entreat the media to come together and wage a crusade against persons with the penchant for hurling insults at their political opponents."
In a move to improve political discourse within the region, Mr. Appiah urged the hosts of political shows on radio and television stations to work closely with the region's director of communications to ensure that rightfully appointed communicators appear on their shows. This, he explained, would ensure that communicators with the requisite knowledge in the areas under discussion were assigned to propagate the party's position on such matters of national importance.
A Call for Cooperation
The NPP leader emphasized the importance of the media in the country's political ecosystem, saying, "The new leadership reveres the media so much and will continue to work with them in the interest of the party." He stressed that without the involvement of the media, the party could not effectively communicate its policy alternatives to the citizenry. Mr. Appiah said, "It is through your platforms that we can sell our messages to win back the hearts of Ghanaians."
The party's regional leadership is looking to build a mutually beneficial partnership with the media to promote the party's alternative policies and programmes ahead of the 2028 general election. Mr. Appiah said, "We want to work effectively with the media to improve political discourse within the region. As a result, we call for the needed cooperation and assistance from the media in this regard."
A New Era of Collaboration
The Ashanti Regional Chairman's call to the media is seen as a positive step towards improving the political landscape in the region. By working closely with the media, the NPP hopes to promote a more respectful and constructive dialogue between political parties and their supporters. As Mr. Appiah put it, "If you want to have a good political life, then you must desist from the politics of insults." The party's regional leadership is committed to building a partnership with the media that will benefit both parties and contribute to the growth and development of the region.
