Finance Minister unable to explain how much of the economic programme has been executed and how much hasn't - Oppong Nkrumah

Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson's mid-year budget review has come under fire from opposition leader Kojo Oppong Nkrumah.

Budget Review Falls Short

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has criticized the Finance Minister's failure to address how much of the government's economic programme has been implemented. This is the first mid-year review that failed to account for the progress made, according to Oppong Nkrumah.

The opposition leader argued that the Finance Minister's presentation did not provide a clear picture of the government's economic performance. "The Finance Minister failed to tell Ghanaians how much of the government's economic programme has been implemented," Oppong Nkrumah stated on social media.

Under-Execution of Budget

Oppong Nkrumah also accused the government of under-executing its 2026 budget by approximately GH¢30 billion. He claimed that the shortfall has affected the country's economic growth. "The government's fiscal approach is being scrutinized, and it's clear that the budget is not being implemented as planned," he said.

Scrapping of Taxes

Oppong Nkrumah also challenged the Finance Minister's claim of scrapping six taxes in the 2025 Budget. He stated that only two taxes have been scrapped, leaving the remaining four in place. "This is a clear indication that the government is not committed to reducing the tax burden on Ghanaians," he said.

Government Response

The government has yet to respond to Oppong Nkrumah's criticisms. The Finance Minister's office has been silent on the matter, leaving many to wonder what the government's next move will be.

The opposition leader's criticisms have sparked a heated debate on social media, with many Ghanaians expressing their concerns about the government's economic policies. The government's failure to provide a clear picture of its economic progress has raised questions about its ability to manage the country's finances effectively.
