WERise urges women entrepreneurs to scale businesses, increase revenue and create jobs

Women entrepreneurs in Ghana took a step beyond launching businesses when they met at the CalBank PLC Auditorium in Accra on Monday, September 28. At the 2026 Annual General Meeting and Regional Fora of the WERise Network, they were urged to shift focus from starting up to scaling up—building enterprises that increase revenue, create jobs, and contribute to the country’s economy.

The event drew a crowd of women entrepreneurs, business leaders, industry partners, and stakeholders under the theme “Rise & Scale: Celebrating Growth, Building Revenue, Creating Jobs.” Eunice Dewi Adjei, CEO of WERise Network, pointed to the progress made by women in business but stressed the need for more opportunities to help them move into expansion. WERise currently connects over 25,000 women entrepreneurs across Ghana’s 16 regions.

The Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA) joined the gathering through the Director of its Women Entrepreneurship Directorate. The agency reaffirmed its support for women-owned businesses, offering entrepreneurship training, business advisory services, access to finance, market linkages, and capacity building.

Attendees were encouraged to strengthen the systems that support their businesses. They were advised to focus on financial management, proper record keeping, branding, customer service, digitalisation, and developing effective business processes. Organisers said these areas must be solid if women-owned businesses are to enter larger markets and sustain growth.

Private sector companies also played a role during the Fora. Representatives from CalBank, MTN, and Telecel presented products and services tailored to support small businesses. This gave participants a chance to learn about useful solutions and engage directly with the companies.

Cynthia Torto, a brand consultant and strategic marketing professional, delivered a presentation titled “Building Sustainable Brands for SME Growth.” Her talk was followed by interactive discussions and networking sessions, allowing entrepreneurs to exchange ideas and form connections.

The AGM also gave members a chance to reflect on the WERise Network’s direction and connect with institutions that could support their journeys. The network was established by the Ghana Enterprises Agency in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation to link women entrepreneurs, strengthen peer relationships, and promote knowledge sharing and skills development.

The 2026 AGM and Regional Fora marked the launch of WERise Network’s annual programme. Over the coming months, the network plans to hold an exhibition at Yenze Ghana Mall and offer masterclasses on financial literacy, artificial intelligence and digital tools, risk management and insurance, storytelling, and brand building.

These activities aim to help women-owned businesses transition from growth to scale while improving access to knowledge, networks, markets, and business opportunities. The event made clear that scaling a business takes more than ambition; it requires a strong foundation in business systems and access to resources that can turn growth into lasting expansion.
