The Ghana Civil Society Coalition Against Transnational Crime will launch in Accra on August 12 to coordinate efforts against trafficking for forced criminality and related crimes. Launching a Coalition Against Transnational Crime
The Ghana Civil Society Coalition Against Transnational Crime will be launched in Accra on August 12. The coalition is a response to the growing trend of young people being recruited through fake online job advertisements and trafficked to engage in criminal activities abroad.
A statement issued by the Coalition said the initiative would strengthen collaboration among stakeholders, support victims of trafficking, and improve responses to emerging forms of organised crime. Young people are increasingly being targeted through online recruitment scams, with Ghana becoming a source, transit point, and destination for trafficked individuals.
The statement highlighted the importance of cooperation between institutions, including the International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL) and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). The Coalition will work to improve consular protection for Ghanaians affected abroad and support the identification of trafficking victims.
Addressing Online Recruitment Scams
The Coalition will also collaborate with the Cyber Security Authority to improve reporting of online recruitment scams and encourage the removal of fraudulent recruitment content from digital platforms. This effort aims to strengthen links between cyber security and anti-trafficking efforts, making it harder for traffickers to operate online.
The statement said that membership was free and open to organisations that subscribed to the Coalition Charter. Organisations that sign up via the website https://gcscoalition.org/membership by Monday, 10 August, will be listed in the launch programme and issued a Certificate of Founding Membership.
Founding Members and the Road Ahead
The Ghana Civil Society Coalition Against Transnational Crime was announced on July 30, 2026, in a communiqué issued after the “Trapped Behind the Scam” national forum, convened online by Global Youth Action Network (GYAN) Ghana, the Democratic Network for Action (DNA), and Transnational Mobility Pathways (TMP). The launch on August 12 marks the beginning of a new chapter in the fight against transnational crime in Ghana.
As the Coalition takes its first steps, it is clear that there is much work to be done. The initiative's focus on strengthening collaboration, supporting victims, and improving responses to emerging forms of organised crime is a welcome development in the fight against trafficking. With the launch of the Coalition, Ghana takes a significant step towards addressing the complex issue of transnational crime and protecting its citizens from exploitation.
