At the 26th Congregation of Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) in Accra, Deputy Chief of Staff Nana Oye Bampoe Addo urged graduates to master digital skills to stay competitive in the job market. She emphasized the importance of learning to build digital tools, not just consume them, as the world shifts towards automated systems.
Digital Ambition Requires Safety and Protection
Nana Oye Bampoe Addo noted that no digital ambition survives without safety, highlighting the government's efforts to match innovation with protection. The cybersecurity authority has sustained operations against cybercrime networks, arresting scores of suspects in coordinated actions with the Ghana Police Service. The government has also launched Ghana's National Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2025 to 2035, built on eight pillars from education to public sector deployment.
Government Support for AI and Digital Skills
The Deputy Chief of Staff mentioned the launch of the National AI Fund, beginning with Ghc 5 billion and scaling to Ghc 50 billion by 2035. Additionally, the government has planned a $250 million National AI Computing Center, which will be the next center for research and enterprise. The government has also extended AI training with support from the United Nations Development Planning, which has been extended to ministers, with performance indicators now tracking digital adoption across sectors.
Educating the Next Generation in AI and Digital Skills
The Deputy Chief of Staff emphasized the importance of introducing coding, robotics, and AI from the basic school level. The government has a curriculum review committee working to introduce these subjects into the education system. This move aims to equip students with the necessary skills to be competitive in the job market.
GIMPA Graduates Pledge to Carry Institution's Values
At the graduation ceremony, Prof Samuel Kwaku Bonsu, Rector of GIMPA, urged students to strive to keep the spirit and image of the institution in their endeavors. He announced that the institute is finalizing the building of a 3,000-seater stadium for sports activities. The overall best graduating student, Ms Samuela Amma Boakye-Appiah, commended the management of GIMPA for moulding and sharpening their minds and pledged to carry these values with ethical responsibility.

As the GIMPA graduates enter the job market, they will face increasing competition. However, with the government's support for AI and digital skills, they will be well-equipped to stay ahead of the curve.
