Ghana cannot develop sustainably merely by building roads, bridges, and factories.

Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts Minister Abla Dzifa Gomashie delivered that message at the opening of the 23rd Ghana International Book Fair in Accra. A speech read on her behalf on Friday urged citizens to build a strong culture of reading across the country.

She described reading as a powerful instrument for national transformation.

"Reading is not merely an academic exercise; it is a powerful instrument for national transformation," the Minister stated. "It broadens our minds, strengthens our capacity to think critically, exposes us to new ideas and enables us to understand the experiences of other people and societies."

Developing a strong reading habit among children and young people represents one of the most important investments Ghana can make for its future, she added
