Prince George is set to start his first day as a boarder at Eton College in Berkshire, where annual school fees are around £65,000.
The 13-year-old prince is second in line of succession to the throne. He is the oldest child of Prince William and Catherine.
His arrival at Eton follows his completion of studies at Lambrook, an independent prep school located in Berkshire.
Before the decision was confirmed, there had been speculation about where Prince George would go after Lambrook. A number of private schools had been suggested as options for his secondary education.
His parents chose a traditional path for his schooling. In attending Eton College, Prince George follows his father, his uncle Prince Harry, and his great uncle Earl Spencer.
