Shelton defeated defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in a quarter-final match that lasted 4 hours and 28 minutes.
The final score was 6-7 (5), 6-1, 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 (10-7).
The result ended Alcaraz’s 18-match winning streak in Grand Slam tournaments.
Shelton now advances to play No. 11 seed Frances Tiafoe in the semi-finals.
Tiafoe secured his spot in the final four earlier on Tuesday by beating Alex Michelsen.
