The US Justice Department has accused three major news outlets banned from the White House of trafficking in verifiable falsehoods in legal documents filed with a District of Columbia court.
Government attorneys submitted the filing as part of their preparation to defend the White House ban during an upcoming court hearing.
The filing claims that published reports from CNN, Politico, and MS NOW threatened national security before the administration moved to revoke press credentials from their reporters.
Last week, President Donald Trump barred journalists from CNN, Politico, and MS NOW from entering the White House grounds, accusing the outlets of spreading fake news.
White House officials then confiscated press passes from reporters representing the three organizations and denied them access to the building.
In response to the action, CNN, Politico, and MS NOW jointly launched legal action against the government
