Member of the Council of State Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple has accepted the role of Patron of the Aldershot Branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) UK and Ireland Chapter. He said he took on the position with a clear sense of responsibility to support the branch’s efforts and contribute to the party’s wider goals and Ghana’s development.
Kwamigah-Atokple acknowledged the expectations placed on him by the branch’s executives and members. He said the appointment gave him the chance to work closely with the branch to strengthen its activities, deepen its impact in the diaspora, and back projects that can bring tangible benefits to Ghana.
The Aldershot Branch holds a significant place in the NDC’s diaspora network, having been inaugurated by former President John Dramani Mahama. Kwamigah-Atokple said the branch’s role extends beyond political mobilisation to supporting Ghana’s development overseas. He urged members to use their professional experience, business connections, and ties within the Ghanaian community in the UK to attract investment and create jobs back home.
“The diaspora has valuable expertise and access to potential investors which, if effectively harnessed, could help connect Ghana to investors willing to establish businesses, expand commercial activities and create employment opportunities,” he said.
He also encouraged the NDC UK and Ireland Chapter to focus on investment promotion as part of its contribution to Ghana. He referenced President Mahama’s Reset Agenda and the 24-Hour Economy policy, which aim to boost economic activity, attract investment, and generate jobs. Kwamigah-Atokple said the diaspora must actively engage in these efforts.
He called on members to identify credible investment opportunities and link them with prospective investors. “The diaspora’s contribution should extend beyond political mobilisation to practical support for Ghana’s economic development,” he said. “Every investor introduced to Ghana, every viable business opportunity facilitated and every job created could contribute to the economic transformation the country seeks.”
Kwamigah-Atokple also backed the Aldershot Branch’s plan to use its second anniversary celebration to raise funds for potable drinking water and other social projects in Ghana. He pointed out that access to clean drinking water remains a challenge in some communities and described it as fundamental to human health and dignity.
To support this effort, he donated an undisclosed amount in US dollars towards the branch’s fundraising. He hoped his contribution would aid the provision of potable water and encourage more support from comrades and well-wishers.
Looking ahead, Kwamigah-Atokple announced plans to visit the NDC UK and Ireland Chapter in the coming months. He wants to meet its executives and members, take part in activities, and discuss practical ways to support the branch’s growth and Ghana’s development.
He reaffirmed his commitment to the NDC and said supporting the party’s cause remains his top priority. “I remain available to work with the leadership and members of the chapter to do more for the party and contribute to the realisation of the vision of its forebears for Ghana,” he said, naming national development, economic opportunity, and improved living conditions as central aims.
Kwamigah-Atokple congratulated the Aldershot Branch on its second anniversary and praised members for choosing to support social interventions in Ghana as part of the celebration. He urged them to continue finding ways for the NDC’s diaspora structures to make meaningful contributions to the country’s development.
