Three people have been arrested in connection with the kidnapping and murder of 33-year-old Nana Yaw Kyere in Accra. The Ghana Police Service confirmed the arrests on Monday, September 28, following investigations by the Missing Persons Unit.
Mr Kyere was reported missing on September 22 after he left his home in Kokomlemle on September 19 in his Honda Civic and did not return. Police investigations revealed that he was allegedly lured to the residence of one of the suspects, Philip Dzifa Kofi Tefe, at Teshie Agbleza by Sarah Osei Adams.
According to the police press release, both Mr Tefe and Ms Adams confessed to their involvement. They told investigators that during a confrontation, Mr Tefe attacked Mr Kyere with a metallic object, causing injuries. The victim was then moved to another room, where he was left unattended and later died.
The police said Mr Kyere’s body was transported in a Kia Morning to a bush near the motorway on September 20, where it was dumped and set on fire. The partially burnt remains were discovered the next day, on September 21, at Community 18.
Mr Kyere’s mother and an uncle formally identified the remains at the Police Hospital mortuary on September 24.
The police also recovered Mr Kyere’s iPhone 12. They allege that Philip Tefe sold the phone for GH¢100. The buyer, identified as Sunday Omeje, has been cautioned and detained on suspicion of dishonestly receiving stolen property.
Further investigations led to the arrest of Josiah Obodai, who is suspected of involvement in disposing of the body. Police impounded a Kia Morning belonging to his father, believed to have been used to transport the victim’s body.
All three suspects remain in police custody and are expected to be charged as investigations continue. The Ghana Police Service said it is working to identify and arrest any others involved in the case.
