The first-ever Garden City Aquatics inter-schools swimming competition was held on Saturday, 25 July 2026, at the KNUST poolside in Kumasi. The event brought together 65 events for both male and female swimmers from 11 schools in the city.
New Platform for Swimming Talent
The competition, initiated by a group of parents whose children swim, aims to provide students of all abilities with the opportunity to compete in a professionally organised environment. This, according to Garden City Aquatics (GCA), will allow participants to showcase their talents and develop confidence through sport.
The championship is open to public and private basic, junior high, and senior high schools. Mr Awusi Boateng, a member of GCA, highlighted the event's inclusive nature, stating that it provides students with a chance to compete regardless of their swimming level.
Hidden Stars Shine in the Pool
One of the standout performers at the event was a young girl named Faith. Despite being a first-time swimmer, Faith demonstrated exceptional strength and determination in the pool, according to Mr Awusi Boateng. He described her effort, ability, and will to finish the race as something that really stood out for him.
Faith's performance was not an isolated incident. Many of the participants, including those who had never swum before, showed remarkable improvement and dedication to the sport. This bodes well for the future of swimming in Kumasi, where the Garden City Aquatics inter-schools competition is set to become an annual event.
Future Plans and Expansion
Garden City Aquatics has future plans in the pipeline, including annual events and potential expansion into a league. These plans aim to further promote swimming in Kumasi and provide a platform for students to develop their skills. The organisation's non-profit status and mandate to promote water-based activities, including swimming, lifesaving, water safety, and drowning prevention, will undoubtedly play a crucial role in its future endeavors.
The success of the first-ever Garden City Aquatics inter-schools swimming competition is a testament to the dedication of its organisers and participants. As the event continues to grow and evolve, it will undoubtedly provide a platform for swimming talent to flourish in Kumasi.
