Emmanuel Ahadzie, managing director of Service Machinery Ghana Limited (SMGL), was remanded into police custody by an Accra Circuit Court after being charged with conspiracy to defraud his employer of $1 million. The alleged fraud involved a scheme to supply six heavy-duty Sino trucks that never materialised.
Ahadzie, 51, allegedly conspired with two men still at large, Akponu Kwaku Joseph and Guo Nian Ming, also known as David. The trio reportedly convinced Moses Kwame Williams, CEO of SMGL and resident of Baatsona-Spintex, to hand over the funds under false pretences.
The court heard that in April 2026, Ahadzie and the others agreed to supply the trucks in exchange for the $1 million payment. On April 17, Ahadzie persuaded Williams to open a CalBank account and deposit the money into Ming’s account. After the transaction, Ming failed to deliver the trucks as promised.
Williams filed a petition with the Police Intelligence Directorate on September 28, 2026, prompting an investigation. Police surveillance and intelligence operations led to Ahadzie’s arrest. Preliminary inquiries revealed that Ahadzie and Ming had created a pro forma invoice to make the payment appear legitimate.
The prosecution confirmed that Akponu and Ming remain fugitives. Ahadzie did not enter a plea during the hearing and is expected to reappear in court on October 13, 2026.
No further details were provided about the whereabouts of the other accused or the current status of the investigation.
