Two gunmen opened fire on a car carrying Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff on Sunday evening in Mumbai, police confirmed. The 36-year-old star was unharmed, but his driver sustained injuries in the shooting near a football club in the Juhu suburb.
Video footage circulating on social media shows at least two men firing multiple rounds at the front passenger seat as the car moved slowly past a crowd. The attack happened as Shroff and his mother were leaving the venue, leaving them both shaken, Maharashtra’s deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde said after visiting the actor.
“These attempts to intimidate people will not be tolerated, and we will put an end to this hooliganism,” Shinde told reporters. Authorities are investigating the incident, which has revived concerns over the safety of public figures in India.
Two people were injured in the attack, according to local media reports, with Shroff’s driver among them. Police have not disclosed any suspects or motives. Shroff himself did not sustain gunshot wounds, the investigation team confirmed.
Mumbai has seen a string of violent incidents targeting high-profile individuals in recent years. Earlier this year, police arrested two gang members accused of a gun attack on the home of Bollywood actor Salman Khan. In the same year, Indian politician Baba Siddique was shot dead in the city.
Born to actors Jackie Shroff and Ayesha Dutt, Tiger Shroff debuted in 2014 with the romantic action film Heropanti. Since then, he has appeared in several commercially successful films. Outside of acting, Shroff is also a football enthusiast and plays for the professional Mumbai FC.
The shooting near the Juhu football club adds to the unease about actor and celebrity security in India. Despite increased police protection for many public figures, incidents like this demonstrate persistent risks.
Tiger Shroff’s survival without physical harm contrasts sharply with the fate of others who have faced similar attacks. Authorities have not released further details about the assailants or possible motives as investigations continue.
