Stephen Amankona scored early, and Aduana Football Club held on with 10 men to beat Asante Kotoko 2-0 at Kumasi’s Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday.
Amankona’s goal came in the seventh minute, putting Aduana ahead in the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League’s fourth matchday. The Dormaa-based side then had to defend with one less player after Raymond Agyemang was shown a red card late in the first half.
Despite being down to 10 men, Aduana stayed disciplined and dangerous. They kept Kotoko from scoring and sealed the win with a late counter-attack goal from Seidu Saana.
This was Aduana’s first win over Kotoko in Kumasi since 2021. The loss also handed Kotoko their first defeat of the season. Aduana moved to seven points from four matches with the result.
Samuel Boadu’s Kotoko side struggled to break down Aduana’s defence for most of the game. When Agyemang was sent off, it seemed to make the match even harder for Aduana. But rather than sit back, Aduana stayed alert and took their chances.
Kotoko, playing at home, failed to score in front of their fans. The Porcupine Warriors had been unbeaten so far this season before this match.
Aduana’s win will boost their confidence as the league progresses. Their ability to hold onto a lead while a man down shows resilience and tactical discipline.
The Ghana Premier League continues with more matches next weekend. For now, Aduana’s victory in Kumasi stands out on matchday four.
