Nana Yaa Jantuah to petition Speaker over ‘nobody’ remark by Afenyo-Markin

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin's verbal jab at Presidential Staffer Nana Yaa Jantuah has sparked a petition against him. The comment, made during the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) protest at the Jubilee House, has left many in shock.

Afenyo-Markin Accused of Disrespect

Nana Yaa Jantuah has announced plans to petition the Speaker of Parliament over the comments made by Afenyo-Markin. The Minority Leader described her as "a nobody" during the protest, which she claims was not only disrespectful to her but also to President John Dramani Mahama, who had delegated her to receive the petition on his behalf.

Jantuah explained that the President had asked her to stand in for him because he and other government officials were attending events marking the first anniversary of the helicopter crash that claimed the lives of several national figures. However, when the NPP delegation arrived at the Jubilee House, they initially refused to present the petition after realising she had been delegated to receive it.

A Disrespectful Comment

Jantuah expressed disappointment over what she described as the Minority Leader's conduct, saying he had no justification for speaking to her in that manner. She claimed that Afenyo-Markin was out of line, saying, "I am old enough to be your mother. Afenyo-Markin is a small boy in my eyes. Who is he to disrespect me? He should never try that again."

The Fallout

The incident has sparked a petition against Afenyo-Markin, with many calling for his resignation. The petition is expected to be presented to the Speaker of Parliament in the coming days. As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how the Minority Leader will respond to the allegations made against him.

The Jubilee House protest was a significant event, with both the government and the opposition party in attendance. The incident highlights the tense relationship between the two parties, which has been a hallmark of Ghanaian politics in recent years. As the country moves forward, it remains to be seen how this incident will impact the relationship between the government and the opposition.
