Construction has started on the Ga Odumase Market in the Ga West Municipality after a sod-cutting ceremony on Friday, September 25, 2026. The event brought together local traders, residents, and officials from the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
Deputy Local Government Minister Rita Naa Odoley Sowah spoke at the ceremony on behalf of the ministry. She said the market project shows the government’s focus on inclusive growth and improving services at the local level. “This market will improve trading conditions, enhance safety, and provide economic opportunities for the people of Ga Odumase and its surrounding communities,” she said.
The new market aims to provide traders a safer, cleaner, more accessible, and better-organised space for their businesses. It is expected to ease congestion and improve sanitary conditions that have long been a challenge in the area. Hundreds of traders will be able to operate under the new infrastructure, which should also increase local economic activity.
The Deputy Minister called on the contractor to deliver quality work on schedule to ensure value for money. She also told the Ga West Municipal Assembly to supervise the construction closely and maintain standards throughout the project. “Effective supervision and monitoring are essential to guarantee standards are met,” she stated.
