Call grows to list Ebo Whyte in Guinness World Records
Fans and arts enthusiasts in Ghana are calling for playwright Ebo Whyte to be recognized in the Guinness World Records for his incredible theater streak.
In September 2024, the panel for the Onyimpon Cultural Sector Awards selected James Ebo Whyte for its top prize in drama. Whyte did not attend the ceremony to collect the award in person.
He was at the theatre running a live production that evening. Because he made a personal promise to be present at every performance, his wife, Florence, attended the event to accept the prize on his behalf.
The incident reflects the strict routine of the playwright and head of Roverman Productions, known to audiences as Uncle Ebo Whyte. For nearly two decades, Whyte has promised theatre lovers in Ghana that he would write, direct, and stage a brand-new, original, full-length play every quarter of the year.
