French customs officers at the port of Dunkirk opened a shipping container filled with plastic waste from Ghana on September 10, 2026, and found nearly 3.9 tonnes of cocaine concealed inside.
The intercepted consignment carried an estimated market value of about €225 million.
The Narcotics Control Commission in Accra has confirmed that the arrests following the massive bust were the product of a long-term, intelligence-led operation rather than a sudden chance discovery.
Francis Opoku Amoah, the Acting Director of Public Affairs at NACOC, said officers had been keeping key members of the drug trafficking network under surveillance for a considerable period before making their move.
Amoah, who serves as a Principal Narcotics Control Officer at the commission, explained that law enforcement agencies often monitor criminal suspects silently
