Fearless Echoes from the Ghana Prisons Headquarters took the top prize at the 5 Star Energy Jama Masters 2026, held on Saturday, 3 October, at La Kpaan Sɛɛ in Labadi, Accra. The group walked away with GH¢15,000, a full set of jama instruments, an official plaque, and a range of sponsor products after outshining six other finalists in a packed venue.
Seventeen traditional jama groups began the competition, which aired on TV3, but only seven reached the grand finale. Alongside Fearless Echoes, the finalists included MTCE Morale, The Generals, The DONS, Kpetekple Jama, Holy Family Morale, and Adom Drumming Group.
The event, hosted by Lord Asoreba Thunderh, known as the Jama Lord, drew hundreds of cultural music fans who filled La Kpaan Sɛɛ to capacity. Student groups and community morale crews waved flags and clapped in unison as the finalists delivered two rounds of performances.
Fearless Echoes impressed with military-grade synchronisation, thunderous drumming, and booming vocals that dominated the arena. Their precise formations and powerful rhythms set them apart. MTCE Morale, which finished second and won GH¢10,000 plus sponsor products, presented a melodic and emotionally charged set combining classic street chants with modern highlife influences. The Generals Morale, third place winners with GH¢5,000 and sponsor products, brought fast-paced percussion and dramatic formations that energized the crowd.
The title sponsor, 5 Star Energy Drink, was represented by a spokesperson who praised all seventeen groups for their dedication to keeping Ghanaian street music alive. The competition was organised by Brein Consult, which thanked sponsors 5 Star Energy Drink, Perla Mineral Water, and TV3 for their support. They also reassured jama music fans of ongoing efforts to promote and preserve the culture.
The 5 Star Energy Jama Masters has become a platform where traditional jama music groups compete live, pushing their creativity and stamina. The 2026 finale was notable for its packed house and the high level of performance from all finalists.
Fearless Echoes’ victory adds to an ongoing tradition of morale music that blends rhythmic drumming with vocal chants, often linked to Ghana’s prison service. Their ability to command the stage with military precision and dynamic sound earned them the largest cash prize and recognition from the audience and organisers.
MTCE Morale’s fusion of street chants and highlife rhythms won the crowd’s affection, while The Generals’ raw energy delivered a forceful show that reminded listeners of jama’s roots in community solidarity and morale boosting.
The event was more than a contest; it was a gathering of Ghanaian cultural expression, with each group representing different styles and traditions within the jama genre. The presence of a full house indicated the continuing popularity of this music form.
Brein Consult’s organisers confirmed plans to maintain the competition as an annual event, ensuring traditional jama groups remain visible on national stages and television. Their partnership with major sponsors signals growing corporate interest in Ghana’s cultural music.
The 5 Star Energy Jama Masters 2026 ended with Fearless Echoes holding the trophy and the biggest share of the prize money, leaving a clear impression of their dominance in the traditional jama scene.
