Joy Sports editor Fentuo Tahiru will moderate the first Music Meets Football Summit in Lusaka, Zambia, this October. The event, organised by MOZO TV and Platinum Events Productions Africa, will run from October 15 to 16 at Open Window University.
The summit will bring together people from the music and football worlds to discuss how the two industries can work together. Fentuo will lead discussions and panels on the first day. The second day will focus on exhibitions, networking, and business-to-brand opportunities.
The event aims to attract creative professionals, sports executives, and other stakeholders from across Africa. It is set to be a gathering point for those interested in the overlap between music and football, two sectors with large followings on the continent.
Fentuo Tahiru’s appointment as moderator adds to his growing international profile as a sports journalist and broadcaster. He is also a Duty Editor and Digital News Producer for the International Olympic Committee’s Olympic Channel Services. Earlier this year, he was one of two accredited Ghanaian broadcasters to cover the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
His reporting experience spans more than 20 major international tournaments, including the FIFA World Cup, Africa Cup of Nations, and World Athletics Championships. His work has appeared on global platforms such as the BBC, Ebony Magazine, Time Magazine, and Netflix’s Sprint docuseries.
The Music Meets Football Summit will run over two days, with Fentuo driving conversations on the opening day. These discussions will focus on how music and football intersect, including potential business collaborations and cultural connections.
On the second day, attendees will have the chance to explore exhibitions and engage directly with brands and businesses looking to invest in the crossover between the two industries. This format reflects a growing interest in how entertainment and sport can support each other commercially and creatively.
The summit’s location at Open Window University places it in Lusaka’s educational and cultural scene, providing a platform for industry leaders and upcoming talents to connect.
As the first event of its kind in the region, the summit could set a precedent for future collaborations between African music and football sectors. Fentuo Tahiru’s involvement lends the event credibility, given his experience covering major global sports events and working with international media outlets.
The event organisers have not released a full list of participants yet, but the summit is expected to draw a broad range of professionals from across Africa’s creative and sports industries. This includes musicians, football administrators, marketers, and brand representatives.
The growing interest in combining music and football reflects the broader trend of entertainment industries working together to reach larger audiences and create new business opportunities.
Fentuo Tahiru’s role as moderator will be closely watched, as the summit aims to spark meaningful dialogue and connections between two sectors that often share fan bases but rarely collaborate formally at this scale.
The event’s success could encourage similar initiatives across the continent, further linking Africa’s rich musical heritage with its passion for football.
