Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple has taken on the role of Patron at the Aldershot Branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) UK and Ireland Chapter. The member of Ghana’s Council of State accepted the position with a clear sense of responsibility and the expectations it carries.
Kwamigah-Atokple said the role offers a chance to work closely with the Aldershot Branch to strengthen its activities and deepen its contribution to the NDC’s diaspora network. He also sees it as an opportunity to support practical development projects back home in Ghana.
The Aldershot Branch holds a notable place in the party’s diaspora structure. It was inaugurated by former President John Dramani Mahama, a sign of its importance within the NDC overseas.
Kwamigah-Atokple urged members to go beyond political mobilisation. He encouraged them to use their professional skills, business contacts and international networks to support investment and create jobs in Ghana.
“The Ghanaian diaspora possesses expertise and access to potential investors that could be used to attract businesses and create employment opportunities,” he said.
He called on the NDC UK and Ireland Chapter to make investment promotion a major part of its work. He connected this to President Mahama’s Reset Agenda and the 24-Hour Economy policy, which aim to boost Ghana’s economic growth.
Kwamigah-Atokple asked members to identify credible investment opportunities, help organise meetings with potential investors, and assist businesses that want to start or expand operations in Ghana.
He stressed that the diaspora’s role should go beyond sending remittances or engaging in political activities. Practical efforts that support economic growth and job creation were needed.
This call aligns with remarks Kwamigah-Atokple made earlier in June, where he urged Ghanaians abroad to use their expertise, technology and international connections to help businesses and employment back home.
The new Patron also voiced support for the Aldershot Branch’s plan to use its second anniversary celebration to raise funds for potable water projects and other social interventions in Ghana.
He said access to clean drinking water remains a challenge in some communities. “It is fundamental to human health and dignity,” he added.
Kwamigah-Atokple called for contributions from citizens, institutions, businesses and organised groups to help address these challenges.
To back the initiative, he donated an undisclosed amount in US dollars to the branch’s fundraising efforts. The money will support the provision of clean water and other planned social projects in Ghana.
Looking ahead, Kwamigah-Atokple announced plans to visit the NDC UK and Ireland Chapter in the coming months. He intends to meet its executives and members and join its activities more directly.
He said these visits would offer a chance to find ways to strengthen the chapter, bring investment to Ghana, and support projects that improve living conditions.
Kwamigah-Atokple reaffirmed his support for the NDC. He said advancing the party’s cause remains his top priority.
He congratulated the Aldershot Branch on reaching its second anniversary and praised members for using the occasion to back social intervention projects in Ghana.
He encouraged the branch to keep up these efforts and to keep looking for ways the NDC’s diaspora groups can contribute to the country’s development.
