Ghana Football Association Communications Director Henry Asante Twum has rejected suggestions that early eliminations from African competitions prove the Ghana Premier League is a weak league.
His comments followed the recent exits of Medeama SC and Nations FC from continental football tournaments organized by the Confederation of African Football.
Medeama SC were knocked out of the CAF Champions League after losing 4-1 on aggregate to TP Mazembe.
Nations FC suffered a 2-1 aggregate defeat against Diarra FC in the CAF Confederation Cup.
The two early exits produced immediate debate across the country regarding the standard and competitiveness of Ghana's domestic top flight.
Some fans and analysts argued that the results against TP Mazembe and Diarra FC exposed structural weaknesses in the local competition.
