More than 20,000 students eligible for self-placement have yet to secure a Senior High School spot just days before the September 18 reopening date. To clear the backlog, the Ministry of Education extended the 2026 placement process by one week.
The extra time gives families more room to complete self-placement on the portal or request changes to their residential status. It also keeps resolution setup staff working through thousands of unresolved complaints logged across the country.
Resolution centres in all regions will operate from Monday to Friday throughout the extension period. Officials hope the extra five working days will allow the system to clear most of the remaining cases before academic work begins.
